CHEAT METHOD: SPEED
Look in your nascar\tracks\taladega directory for a text file called TALADEGA.TXT.
Approximately 3 lines into the file, there is a line called SPDWY.
Change the first 1 to a 0. Now you can do up to 255 through the straights in good weather.
